BJP corporator arrested for Sunil Joshi murder

Dewas and Bhopal: Less than three months after RSS man Harshad Solanki was charged with killing RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi, the Dewas police has now arrested BJP leader, Ram Charan Patel in connection with the murder.

Ram Charan Patel is a BJP corporator from Dewas. Police say, Patel stole Sunil Joshi's cellphone right after his murder on December 29, 2007 and was also behind his killing.

Patel has been arrested for murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

''We found that he took away the original mobile, and gave a different set to the police. He destroyed the SIM and the original mobile,'' said Surendra Pal Singh, Superintendent of Police, Dewas.

Sunil Joshi, a close associate of Sadhvi Pragaya Singh, allegedly masterminded the Malegaon and the Ajmer blasts. Sources say he was killed because he knew too much about the Hindutva terror plot and his murder investigation was scampered.

The Dewas Police had arbitrarily closed the case in 2009 citing lack of evidence. It was only after Solanki's arrest by the Rajasthan ATS last year that the case was reopened. And now a new accused has emerged after the investigation.

Even though the investigation into the case has restarted, many questions are still being raised over the fate of the probe. Why did the Dewas Police take three long years to find this fact? Is this police action prompted by reports of NIA contemplating a case against them for destruction of evidence?

However, with new angles emerging in the Malegaon blast case, it is expected that more skeletons would be out in Sunil Joshi murder case too.
