Here are top 10 developments on coronavirus cases in India:
While India reported its biggest single-day surge in cases yesterday with 62,538 fresh infections, 56,282 patients were registered on Thursday. On Wednesday, 52,509 fresh infections were recorded and this figure stood at 52,050 on Tuesday. The United States and Brazil - two countries where Covid caseload is higher that India - recorded lesser number of fresh infections on all four days.
This is the second consecutive day that India has reported over 60,000 cases. The country has been reporting more than 50,000 fresh infections every day for more than a week.
The ten states with biggest Covid caseload in India are: Maharashtra (4.9 lakh cases, Tamil Nadu (2.85 lakh cases), Andhra Pradesh (2.06 lakh cases), Karnataka (1.64 lakh cases, Delhi (1.42 lakh cases), Uttar Pradesh (1.13 lakh cases), West Bengal (89.66 thousand cases), Telangana (77,513) cases), Bihar (71,304 cases) and Gujarat (68,0000 cases).
In the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases were reported from five states - Maharashtra (10,483), Andhra Pradesh (10,171), Karnataka (6,670), Tamil Nadu (5,880) and Uttar Pradesh (4,404).
These five states also recorded the highest number of COVID-19 linked deaths during this period, the government data shows.
The recovery rate stood at 68.32 per cent this morning, an improvement from yesterday's 67.98 per cent.
The positivity rate - an indicator to assess the prevalence of the disease- stood at 10.28 on Saturday morning, as compared to Friday's 10.88 per cent.
India, which has a population of about 138 crores, has tested over 2.33 crore samples so far. On Friday, 5.98 lakh samples were tested across the country.
Worldwide, the Covid tally has surged to 1.93 crore; over 7.21 lakh people have died.
The United States- pandemic of the epicentre- has over 49 lakh cases. Brazil at the second sport has more than 29 lakh cases.
