Three months after losing a son to the village pond, a grieving family in Nugar village near Mehsana has suffered another devastating blow as 24-year-old Sachin Rawal drowned in the exact same body of water.
Sachin had gone near the edge of the pond to answer the call of nature when he accidentally lost his footing and slipped into the deep water. Emergency responders and local fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and recovered his body after an extensive search operation.
The victim had visited his workplace in Motap earlier in the morning and had briefly returned home to collect his bank passbook after receiving his salary. He then walked toward the village pond, where the fatal slip occurred. Due to the extreme depth of the pond, bystanders and rescue teams were unable to save him in time.
The death has dealt a crushing blow to the family, who lost Sachin's brother just three months ago under identical circumstances when he drowned while taking a bath in the same pond. The consecutive loss of two young brothers in such a short span has cast a heavy pall of gloom over the entire village.
The family had already been coping with the earlier passing of their father, leaving behind only the mother and a younger son. Officials from the local police station and the fire department carried out spot inspections and have initiated standard legal procedures regarding the accidental death.
