Parbhani:

Four people were killed as the roof in front of the sanctum at the Yashwadi temple in Maharashtra's Parbhani district collapsed during construction work on Saturday.

The temple is located in Yashwadi village, about 190 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. MLA Rajesh Vitekar said 27 people were trapped under debris following the collapse. While four people were killed, three are undergoing treatment at the District General Hospital, and the remaining twenty are being treated at RP Medical College. Vitekar confirmed that everyone trapped under the roof has been extricated.

"The artisans were from other states, and the stone used for the work had been procured from Rajasthan. The work was nearing completion, but the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear," Vitekar said.

"I have just spoken with some office-bearers of the trust; it appears there may have been a delay or a lapse in securing the pillar being erected, causing the Sabhamandap to collapse suddenly," he added.

"The loss of lives due to the collapse of a wall in Parbhani, Maharashtra, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. May the injured recover at the earliest," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The temple is the most renowned pilgrimage site in the Parbhani district, attracting 25,000 to 50,000 devotees every Saturday.

"The slab of the temple's 'sabhamandap' (outer hall) collapsed around 3.30 pm. The police and district administration have sent their teams, and a rescue operation is underway," a police official had told news agency PTI during the rescue operation.
