Review: SMS (Siva Manasulo Sruthi)

Highlights

  • After hitting the bull’s eye with a film like Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu, director Tatineni Satya caught the attention of Super Star Krishna family and he was chosen to do a film introducing Sudhirbabu, the brother-in-law of Maheshbabu. He prepared a good love story which has a hero’s character with mass touch while the heroine had a class girl. As the film’s story is interesting, the family gave a go ahead and SMS was brought out on the screen.
  • Siva (Sudhir) is a carefree boy and takes the life as it comes. However, he is a little responsible and works in a courier company as a delivery boy. Once he comes across Sruthi (Regina) during a train journey and falls flat to her and gives his heart in the first sight. He tells Sruthi that he is an Army Officer. However, Sruthi, who is working as a Radio Jockey had so many reservations about her life and marriage and she too fakes that she is an airhostess. Finally she comes into the groove of Siva a little late. As both accept the love of each other, Sruthi learns that Siva is not the boy she really wanted as he acts in an indecent manner and that too very carelessly. So she starts hating him. As the war between love and hate starts, the story takes several twists and the director invoked several elements like jealousy, possessiveness, anger and so on. As the climax approaches the story takes another new twist. What happened to their love? Did Sruthi finally accepted Siva’s love? How, Siva wins back Sruthi’s love? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.
  • Performance:
  • Though a novice, Sudhir did a nice job in the film. He excelled in dances and fights. He showed very good ease in both the departments. However, he has to look after his diction especially in emotional scenes. He has lots of energy and if properly groomed he had many bright chances, especially with the backing of the Super Star family. Regina also had a very bright future and she looks pretty good. Especially in traditional wear, she looks wonderful. Performance wise too she did a decent job. Chanti evokes good laughs as hero’s friend. Though Vennela Kishore tried his best to put all his energy, the director failed to use his talent as he scripted his character very poorly. Tagubotu Ramesh did a cameo job in the climax. Rohini is louder and Naresh is adequate. Other artistes did justice to their roles.
  • Technical:
  • Cimetography by Chittibabu and editing by Suriya are adequate. Music by Selva Ganesh is good especially his background music was quite decent and elevated some scenes. Though the songs are good to listen, their placement were not right as they disturbed the mood of audiences and stopped the flow of the narration of the story. Production values are rich and Tatineni Satya did a decent job and gave a corrupt beginning to newcomer and stood with the expectations of Super Star family. The movie, before the interval, went with a good speed. Had the screenplay was a little bit tight in the second half, it would have been a very good watch. Even now, the film could be watched without any hassles.
  • Remarks:
  • A good beginning for Sudhir with SMS. His ease in dance sequences and action scenes would attract the audiences and the film industry people. Regina’s beauty is another plus point for the movie. You can watch the film without feeling any boredom.
