Kerala State Chalachitra Academy to form festival directorate

  • Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will form a festival directorate for smooth conduct of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) from this year.
  • Eminent film-maker Shaji N Karun will head the directorate, Minister for Cinema K B Ganesh Kumar said after a meeting of the Academy general council.
  • "International Film Festival of Kerala has already earned recognition as one of the best known film festivals and the formation of the directorate would improve its character," he said.
  • The decision was taken to prepare in advance for the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala to be held in December.
  • The Academy also formed sub-committees from among general council members for monitoring programmes, administration, hospitality and media and publicity.
  • The Academy's National Film Festival would be held at Kothamangalam from March 18, 2012.
  • The main feature of the festival would be a package of Marathi films.
  • The long-term plans of the Academy included setting up of a multiplex along with facilities for staging other art forms in Thiruvananthapuram, he said.
  • It was also decided to hold film literacy camps at various centres across the state. Actor and film scholar Raveendran would lead the camps. An Oscar festival comprising seven films shown at the Oscars would be held this month-end in Thiruvananthapuram.
