New Delhi: La La Land, the new musical that has Hollywood all excited, leads the nominations for the Golden Globes, announced on Monday.
La La Land scored seven nods, including Best Picture - Comedy/Musical, Best Director for Damien Chazelle and Best Actor - Comedy/Musical and Best Actress - Comedy/Musical for its stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Deadpool. Indian-origin actor Dev Patel received a nomination - he's up for Best Supporting Actor for
Lion. His co-star Nicole Kidman is also a nominee and
Lion is up for Best Picture - Drama as well. Mel Gibson's
Hacksaw Ridge also received major attention, as did
Florence Foster Jenkins, with acting nominations for its principal cast - Best Supporting Actor for Simon Helberg, Best Actor - Comedy/Musical for Hugh Grant and Best Actress - Comedy/Musical for Meryl Streep, her 30th nomination.
Watch the trailer of La La Land Ms Streep, 67, will be going home with a Golden Globe this year even if she doesn't win her category - she will receive the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. She has won eight Globes previously.
The Golden Globe nominations were announced by actors Don Cheadle, Laura Seen and Anna Kendrick. The awards will be held on January 8 - that's early morning January 9 for India.
