Abhishek Bachchan has given a shout-out to Ponniyin Selvan 2's amazing show at the box office. The film has collected more than 200 crore worldwide.  Quote-tweeting a post shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Abhishek dropped applause emojis. As per the original tweet, the Mani Ratnam magnum opus “continues to cast a spell at the box office” It read, “PS2 amasses massive numbers…#ManiRatnam's #PonniyinSelvan2 [#PS2] continues to cast a spell at the #BO… Rewriting record books! #PS2RunningSuccessfully Rewriting record books.” A new poster was also attached to the tweet.

Before this, Abhishek Bachchan shared a tweet for team Ponniyin Selvan 2 after watching the film. He said, “#PS2 is simply fantastic!!! At a loss for words right now. So overwhelmed. Well done to the entire team #ManiRatnam  @chiyaan, @trishtrashers, @actor_jayamravi, @Karthi_Offl and the rest of the cast and crew.” Abhishek also wrote a special  note for his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays Nandini, Queen of Pazhuvoor in the film. “And so, so proud of the Mrs. Her best by far. #AishwaryaRaiBachchan.” His tweet went viral in no time. Replying to the post, a fan wrote, “ “As you should! Now let her sign more movies and you take care of Aaradhya.” To this, the actor said, “Let her sign??? Sir, she certainly doesn't need my permission to do anything. Especially something she loves.”

Ponniyin Selvan 2 stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Trisha Krishnan, and Karthi.  The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's famous novel.

Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his review for NDTV, said, “Ponniyin Selvan, based on an adaptation of Kalki's magnum opus by director Mani Ratnam, B. Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel, takes some liberties with the much-loved literary work. It yields dividends because the departures are never unduly self-conscious. The overall impact of the construct is accentuated by Ratnam's firm grasp on the technical aspects and the textual essence of the story.”
