In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sharad Tripathi was elected from the Sant Kabir Nagar constituency in Uttar Pradesh on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. He won with 3,48,892 votes defeating Bhishma Shankar of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by a margin of 97,978 votes.
In 2009 elections, Bhishma Shankar won the constituency on a BSP ticket by securing 2,11,043 votes (26.35 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency) , defeating Sharad Tripathi of the BJP who received 1,81,547 votes (22.67 per cent).
There are five assembly seats under the constituency: Alapur, Menhdawal, Khalilabad, Dhanghata and Khajani.
Voting for the Sant Kabir Nagar constituency was conducted in the sixth phase of general elections 2019 on May 12.
For the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Praveen Kumar Nishad is contesting on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. The Indian National Congress has fielded Bhal Chandra Yadav, and Bhishma Shankar is contesting on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.
