In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kuwar Harivansh Singh from the Apna Dal party was elected from the Pratapgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He won with 3,75,789 votes defeating Nasimuddin Siddiqui of the Bahujan Samaj Party by a margin of 1,68,222 votes.
In the 2009 general elections, Ratna Singh of the Indian National Congress won the Pratapgarh constituency by securing 1,69,137 votes (26.39 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency) . His closest opponent was Shivakant Ojha, who contested on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket and received 1,39,358 votes (21.74 per cent).
There are five assembly seats under the Pratapgarh constituency: Raniganj, Rampur Khas, Vishwanathganj, Patti and Pratapgarh.
Voting for the Pratapgarh constituency was conducted in the sixth phase of general elections 2019 on May 12.
For the 2019 general elections, Sangam Lal Gupta from the Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting against Ratna Singh of the Indian National Congress, and Ashok Tripathi of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
