In the 2014 General Elections, Devendra Singh, also known as Bhole Singh, from BJP was elected from Akbarpur seat in Uttar Pradesh. He received 4,81,584 votes. His closest opponent was BSP’s Anil Shukla Warsi who received 2,02,587 votes.
In the 2009 General Elections, Rajaram Pal from Congress was elected form Akbarpur. He received 1,92,549 votes. His closest opponent was BSP’s Anil Shukla Warsi who received 1,60,506 votes.
Akbarpur seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. In the general elections held in 1971, Ramji Ram from INC was elected form Akbarpur seat. In 1977 election, Mangal Deo Visharad from BLD was elected. Then in 1980, Ram Avadh from JNP (S) was elected.
In 1984 election, Ram Piyare Suman from Congress was elected from Akbarpur. In 1989 and 1991 general elections, Ram Awadh was elected on a ticket from Janata Dal.
In 1996, Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar from BSP was elected from Akbarpur. Then in 1998, 1999, and 2004, the Akbarpur seat went to BSP Supremo Mayawati.
The 2019 General Election in Akbarpur was held in the fourth phase. BJP had fielded its sitting MP Devendra Singh from Akbarpur. BSP fielded Nisha Sachan, and Congress fielded Rajaram Pal.
There are five assembly segments under the Akbarpur Lok Sabha constituency. These include Akbarpur-Raniya, Bithoor, Kalyanpur, Maharajpur, and Ghatampur.
