Election Commission extends voting time to increase participation
New Delhi: The Election Commission today decided to extend the voting time by an hour for the Lok Sabha election this time. According to the new scheduled announced by the commission, the voting will take place for 11 hours from 7 am to 6 pm, instead of the existing 7am to 5 pm.

The commission said the timing has been changed to give more time to electorate and to encourage voter participation.

The commission, however, said that voting will close early in Naxal-affected areas and north eastern states.

Meanwhile, the notification for Lok Sabha polls in five constituencies in Assam and one in Tripura in the first phase on April 7 was issued today. The notification was issued by President Pranab Mukherjee.

Tezpur, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur seats in Assam, and Tripura (West) constituency will go for polls on April 7.

The notification for 93 constituencies spread across 18 states that will go to polls on April 9 and 10, will be issued on March 15.
