Odisha releases marking scheme

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has released the criteria to declare the results of the cancelled Class 12th Odisha board exams. The exams were cancelled considering the safety of students amid Covid. The regular students will be awarded scores in the theory papers on basis of their performances in Class 10th board exams. CHSE will declare the results of Class 12th canceled exams in the second week of August, 2021.

For ex-regular students, the students will be awarded scores in the theory papers on the basis of their performances in the previous CHSE Examination which they had appeared earlier.

Practical and project components of a subject for both the regular and ex-regular students will be awarded scores on the basis of the marks obtained at their Higher Secondary School level. The marks obtained at the HS School level will, however, be scrutinised and moderated.

However, students unsatisfied with the marking scheme will also be allowed to appear for the offline exams later on when the situation arising out of Covid normalises.

The Odisha CHSE evaluation criteria have been released on the basis of the recommendations of the expert committee formed to derive the methodology to declare the Class 12 results.

The Odisha Government had on June 4 cancelled the CHSE Class 12 Odisha exams keeping in view the Covid situation.

The decision to cancel the Class 12th CHSE exams came a few days after the Centre announced the cancellation of Class 12 CBSE exams. Odisha plus two examinations for Arts, Science and Commerce streams, administered by CHSE, were slated to begin on May 18.

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has already fixed the criteria to award marks to Class 10 students. The Annual High School Certificate (HSC), Madhyama and State Open School Certificate examinations were cancelled due to Covid this year. As per the criteria released by the board, the evaluation of the cancelled students will be done on the basis of Class 9 and Class 10 marks. The board will also consider the performance of schools in the past four years' HSC exam.
