DU UG Admission 2026: 13,433 seats vacant across colleges in the Spot Round.

New Delhi: Around 13,400 undergraduate seats are still vacant across Delhi University, even after multiple rounds of admissions, with vacancies remaining in some of the university's prominent colleges including Hindu College, Hansraj College, and SRCC. The vacancies span 1,160 college-programme combinations and include several courses where dozens of seats remain unfilled.

According to the DU Admission Branch's latest vacancy list, 13,433 UG seats are available for the 2026-27 Spot Round. The data shows that the largest pool of vacant seats is in the Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) category at 4,133, followed by Scheduled Tribes (ST) with 2,476, unreserved with 2,113, Scheduled Caste (SC) with 2,038 and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) with 1,791 seats. There are also 566 Sikh and 316 Christian category seats vacant.

The extent of the vacancies is particularly notable because they are not confined to colleges or programmes that traditionally see lower demand. Some of the university's best-known colleges continue to have seats available, although the number varies sharply across courses and categories.

Vacancies In Prominent Colleges

At Hindu College, 29 undergraduate seats are vacant across 11 listed programmes, including Economics, B.Com (Hons.), Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Philosophy.

Hansraj College has a larger pool, with 79 vacant seats spread across 19 programmes, including Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Electronics.

At Shri Ram College of Commerce, however, the vacancies are limited to just two seats in Economics, one unreserved, and two seats in B.Com. (Hons.), one each in OBC-NCL and SC.

Other prominent colleges with vacancies include Kirori Mal College, Gargi College, Daulat Singh College, Indraprastha College for Women and Dyal Singh College, among others.

B.Com, Home Science Among Courses With Biggest Gaps

Some individual programmes have exceptionally high numbers of vacant seats.

Swami Shardhanand College has the highest single programme-level vacancy in the list, with 145 seats vacant in B.Com. This includes 66 OBC-NCL, 34 SC, 34 ST and 11 EWS seats.

At the Institute of Home Economics, B.Sc. (Pass) Home Science has 131 vacant seats, while Lady Irwin College has 101 vacant seats in the same programme.

The vacancies are also substantial in several science programmes. Shyam Lal College has 112 vacant seats in B.Sc. Physical Science with Chemistry, while other colleges also report sizeable vacancies in Physical Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and related programmes.

Large Vacancies Across Categories

The category-wise breakup shows that the vacancy problem is not restricted to one section of the admission pool.

OBC-NCL seats account for nearly one-third of all vacancies, making it the largest category in the Spot Round list. The 4,133 OBC-NCL vacancies are followed by 2,476 ST, 2,113 UR, 2,038 SC and 1,791 EWS seats.

The distribution is different from one programme to another. Some courses have vacancies predominantly in reserved categories, while others have seats available across Unreserved (UR), OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and EWS.

Humanities And Language Courses Also Have Vacancies

The list also shows sizeable vacancies in several humanities and language programmes. At Dyal Singh College, for instance, vacancies remain in Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi and Urdu programmes, alongside science and commerce courses. At Kalindi College, B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit has 68 vacant seats and Hindi has 54.

Zakir Husain Delhi College also has vacancies spread across humanities, languages, commerce and science. Its vacancy list includes 27 seats in B.A. (Hons.) Persian, 27 in B.A. (Hons.) Bengali, 32 in B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics, 51 in B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry and 56 in B.Sc. Physical Science with Chemistry, based on the category-wise figures listed by the university.

DU Cautions Vacancy Numbers Can Change

The university has made it clear that the figures are not necessarily final. The vacancy position was prepared as of 1 pm on August 23, and DU said the exact number of seats could change because of reconciliation, withdrawals, cancellations and grievance redressal. Withdrawals will remain suspended during the Spot Round, according to the university.

The Spot Round will therefore give eligible students another opportunity to seek admission against seats that remain vacant after the earlier admission rounds. But the availability of seats will depend on the specific college, programme and admission category, with the vacancy list showing a sharp difference between highly sought-after courses where only a handful of seats remain and programmes where vacancies run into triple digits.
