Two arrested for killing man in tiff over paranthas

New Delhi: Two men were arrested in New Delhi on Monday for killing a 25-year-old man and injuring another in a fight over serving of food at a roadside eatery in south Delhi, police said.

Chetan and Vijay, both in their twenties and residents of Govindpuri, were arrested from near their house on Monday for killing Sailaj and injuring Siddhartha Roy, in the clash, police said.

Sailaj and Siddhartha Roy, both resident of Chittaranjan Park, went to the eatery at around 3 a.m. on Monday and ordered paranthas, said a police officer.

Chetan, a college dropout and Vijay, a BPO employee, were already present there for paranthas.

When the staff of the eatery shop was about to serve paranthas, a dispute arose between the two groups on who will be served first. The dispute snowballed into a clash.

Overpowering Sailaj and Siddhartha, Chetan and Vijay hit them with sticks and sharp-edged objects, before fleeing the spot.

"We received a call that two people (Sailaj and Siddhartha) were found lying in unconscious condition on the road at Govindpuri," said a senior police officer.

They were rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences where doctors declared Sailaj dead. Siddhartha was admitted and is undergoing treatment for head injuries.

Sailaj hailed from Assam and was an engineer.
