Dishonour killing: 5 of family get death penalty for murder of teen couple
New Delhi: Five members of a family were today awarded the death penalty by the Rohini court in the 2010 Swaroop Nagar killing case where a teen couple were beaten up mercilessly, tortured and then electrocuted by the convicts who objected to the girl's marriage with a boy from a different caste.

The accused, girl's parents Suraj and Maya, uncle Om Prakash, aunt Khusboo and brother Sanjeev, were awarded the death penalty by Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Kumar Singhal.

"It can be safely concluded that the prosecution has been able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused persons had caused the death of the victims with the common intention after giving them merciless beatings by tying them with rope and thereafter electrocuting them on various parts of their body," Judge Ramesh Kumar had said on Monday, convicting the five accused in the killing case.

The case pertains to the killing of Yogesh and Asha who hailed from Scheduled Caste and upper caste respectively.

The couple had informed their parents about their relationship and also their decision to get married.
