Delhi Transport Corporation penalising ticketless bus travellers

New Delhi: Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has penalised over 1,200 passengers, including 135 government officials and police personnel, for traveling on its buses without tickets during a five-day drive.

The Corporation, which had launched the drive on Monday, collected a fine of Rs 3.08 lakh from ticketless passengers.

Earlier, Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami had asked DTC officials to adopt a no-tolerance approach against ticketless travellers as a large number of people claiming to be on official duty commute without buying tickets.

Hundreds of officers and traffic supervisory staff were deployed during the drive.

A senior official said 165 cases were also registered for rash driving and improper parking by drivers.

He said punitive action is being taken against 17 conductors for not asking passengers to buy tickets.
