New Delhi:
A 28-year-old man was allegedly abducted by unidentified persons who demanded Rs 25 lakh ransom for his release, police said on Wednesday.
However, police are investigating whether it was a stage-managed abduction as the victim managed to call the police.
Rohit Alawat, a resident of Paschim Vihar in north Delhi, had gone to his office on Monday at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg where he works as an assistant for a legal firm but never returned home, police said.
His father, a lawyer, approached the police after he received a ransom call of Rs 50 lakh on Monday night. He had negotiated with the abductors and had managed to bring down the ransom amount to Rs 25 lakh.
Investigations revealed that he was abducted at around 11: 30 pm on Monday.
Alawat himself called the police and said that some unidentified people were trying to abduct him on Monday night.
But before the police could reach him, he had disappeared.
Alawat informed the police over phone that he was walking at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg towards LNJP hospital where a car stopped near him and four people tried to drag him into the vehicle, a senior police official said.
