Pune blast: A month later

Pune: It's a month into the German Bakery blast in Pune that killed 17 people, mostly students studying at universities there. Bunkers and barricades are providing a sense of safety to the city still recovering from last month's terror attack. (Read: Pune blast death toll rises to 17)

The 24-hour police presence outside other potential targets like the Osho Meditation Resort and the Chabad House are constant reminders of that attack.

"Yes things have changed in the last one month. We have become more cautious - alert - and security has been our priority, but Oshoites though regret the loss of innocent lives are not afraid. Osho has taught us not to fear death," says Ma Sadhana, Spokesperson, Osho Meditation Resort.

Terribly shaken, shocked and saddened, February 13 was indeed a black day for this young, vibrant and peaceful city which now finds its life changed forever.

"This place used to be crowded with party goers, but everything has changed. There is so much security all around," said a student.

"It's been very shocking that this happened to the German Bakery, but we are not afraid and have never thought of going back," said a foreigner.

The city's mood gauged from the number of call-ins prompted by unattended bags.

Between February 13 and February 28, the police got 24 calls. In 2009, they had received only 24 calls. The city is now alert to every possible threat. (Read: ATS chief appeals for information)

"We are more alert now. Police can't be there everywhere. We all will have to contribute by being cautious," said a Pune resident.
