Eight babies rescued as ICU catches fire

Katni, Madhya Pradesh: Eight new-born babies were safely rescued on Sunday from the Katni district hospital's children intensive care unit after a fire broke out following a technical snag in the air conditioner, officials said.

The fire broke out after electricity supply resumed after load shedding around 2.30 pm, they said adding the alert doctors and staff quickly evacuated the eight new born babies from the unit.

They were shifted to another intensive care unit, officials said.

The intensive care unit in-charge Doctor Sobhit Choudha said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The incident comes three days after a three-day-old infant was burnt to death when the incubator he was kept in caught fire at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh's Adilabad district.
