Student allegedly stabs teacher to death in Chennai school for being strict

Chennai: A Class 9 student allegedly stabbed his Hindi teacher in the classroom on Thursday at  a private Chennai' school. The 39-year-old teacher, Uma Maheshwari, has died.

At about 10.50 am yesterday, the student hid a knife in a book, rushed ahead of his classmates as class began and allegedly stabbed Ms Maheshwari repeatedly, Father Bosco Perianayagam, said in a statement he read out. As other students raised an alarm, the boy reportedly hid in a bathroom. He was found and handed over to the police.

The police, who questioned the boy, say Ms Maheshwari, who taught both Science and Hindi, was reportedly a strict teacher and one who wrote regularly to parents about their children's academic performance. Police say this might have provoked the boy into allegedly attacking her. (Post your comment here)
