Bangalore student suicide reports anger friends

Bangalore: Friends and relatives of Pranay Singh, a second semester B E (E&C) student of PES Institute of Technology, staged a protest in the college campus on Wednesday. Pranay had committed suicide in his hostel room on Tuesday, as he allegedly could not handle the academic pressure.

Anushka and Ayesha, Pranay's cousins, along with the student fraternity, demanded that the management of PESIT reply to all wrong reports which have appeared in the media. The students were upset over media reports in Patna which claimed Pranay was a drug addict and involved in a triangular love affair.

The protesting students demanded that the management should address the electronic media live and clarify that the deceased was not a drug addict. After all the high drama, the management and the students settled in the college auditorium in the presence of media to address the issue.

Prof D Jawahar, CEO, PES Institutions, said "Pranay has been falsely represented by some newspapers. Neither was he a drug addict nor involved in love affair. Media have wrongly reported on him. We have no records to say that he was a drug addict. His academic performance was above average. We term it a failure on the part of authorities."

Apologising to Pranay's family and college students, Prof Jawahar said, "We will place advertisements in all leading newspapers here and at Patna clarifying that Pranay was not a drug addict and did not misbehave."

Meanwhile, Pranay's body was taken to his hometown Patna.
