GreenCell Mobility (GCM), an electric bus platform backed by Eversource Capital, has announced plans to deploy 570 new electric buses in Delhi in the coming months. The expansion aims to strengthen the capital's zero-emission public transport network.

The rollout follows GreenCell's recent 89 million USD investment round, which drew participation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), British International Investment (BII), and Tata Capital. The funds are expected to support GreenCell's growing fleet operations and charging infrastructure across several Indian states.

As part of the Delhi project, the company will introduce 12-metre, air-conditioned electric city buses built with higher battery capacities to handle Delhi's operational demands and road conditions. The buses will operate from depots at Rajghat, Dilshad Garden, and Seemapuri, improving connectivity for daily commuters across key routes in the city.

A flag-off ceremony for 500 electric buses was recently held at Ramlila Maidan, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, signaling the Delhi government's continued focus on reducing emissions and enhancing public transport services.

Each of GreenCell's new buses will feature advanced safety and passenger facilities, including an Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS), Passenger Information Systems, real-time vehicle tracking, and internal and reversing cameras. The fleet will also include infrastructure to support differently-abled passengers, ensuring greater accessibility and comfort for all commuters.

"Delhi's electric bus rollout represents the next phase of India's public transport transition from pilots to scaled, city-wide adoption," said Devndra Chawla, MD & CEO of GreenCell Mobility. "Our focus is not just on adding electric buses but on building a reliable, technology-led public transport ecosystem that cities can depend on over the long term."

Beyond Delhi, GreenCell Mobility operates large-scale electric bus projects in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Puducherry. The company also runs 50 intercity electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), highlighting its growing footprint in both city and intercity mobility.

Currently, GreenCell operates a fleet of more than 1,200 electric buses supported by over 270 charging stations nationwide.
