UP: Third Accused Arrested in Alleged Gang-Rape of Two Sisters Who Were Hanged From Tree
Badaun, UP: One more accused has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district in connection with the alleged gang-rape of two teenage sisters who were assaulted and then hanged from a tree in their village. Two of her alleged attackers were arrested yesterday. One is still on the run.

The girls, cousins aged 14 and 15, had gone missing from home on Tuesday night after they stepped out to go to the bathroom. They were found hanging from a tree in an orchard the next morning. Initial medical examination has confirmed that they were raped and died from hanging.

Their families have named four men of the village as accused. They have also alleged that for many hours after the girls went missing the local police refused to register a first information report.

A case of rape and murder was reportedly registered against the four men only after angry villagers protested against the alleged police apathy.

A case of criminal conspiracy has also been registered against two local cops, who have been suspended.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has assured that "whoever is found guilty will be punished."
