FDI debate: Why does Advani use Twitter, asks Lalu
New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RLD) chief Lalu Prasad today sharply attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha by asking why had the party changed its stand from 2002 when it wanted Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

"You supported 100 per cent FDI in retail in 2004 and now Joshi ji (Murli Manohar Joshi) says videshi, videshi (foreign, foreign)... " said Mr Prasad while debating the contentious issue of FDI in multi-brand retail.

Taking a dig at senior BJP leader LK Advani, he said, "Nescafe peene walon, poocho Advani ji se twitter ka istemal kyun kartein hain, woh videshi nahi hain kya (Those who drink Nescafe, please ask LK Advani why does he use Twitter? Is it not foreign?)

Listing out the benefits of FDI, he said that farmers will get the money straight and middlemen will be done away with.

He also said that "there is no compulsion on states to implement it in their states."

Lalu Prasad's comments came after the House was resumed following a five minute adjournment due to verbal clashes between the BJP and him.

There was ruckus in the House by BJP members as soon as the RJD chief had stood up to participate in the debate.

An agitated Lalu Prasad addressed the BJP members as "jamoore", which he translated it as players; the comment led to protests by BJP members. The BJP leader called his comments "unparliamentary".

He then engaged in a verbal duel with the BJP MPs. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Karia Munda, after failing to restore order, had then adjourned the House briefly.
