Karnataka CM rules out CBI probe into illegal mining
Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today ruled out a CBI probe into the illegal iron ore mining and export 'scam' as the indefinite dharna launched by opposition Congress and JDS over the issue in the state legislatures entered the second day.

"We will not hand it over to the CBI," Yeddyurappa told reporters here adding the government was not looking at that option at all.

The government will continue with the on-going inquiry by the Lokayukta into the illegal mining, Yeddyurappa declared.

Congress and the JDS have repeatedly insisted that only CBI was equipped to probe a scam of such magnitude as it involved inter-state operations and overseas shipments.

In the Legislative Council, Home Minister V S Acharya reiterated the government's position vis-a-vis demand for a CBI inquiry.

"We will not accept (not order a probe)," Acharya said.
