Slum in Amritsar catches fire; 10 fire engines battling the blaze

Amritsar: A major fire broke out in a slum in Amritsar on Sunday evening. Around ten fire engines and the army have been trying to battle the blaze.

No casualties have been reported as yet.

The fire reportedly began from a garbage dump where all the burnt left over from the nearby near the Khanna paper mills was left.

Khanna Mills, one of the largest paper mills of the country had caught fire on June 13. Locals allege that the waste from the mills especially after the fire, was being dumped in the slum because of which the fire spread rapidly.

A 7-member committee has been constituted, informed Rajat Aggarwal the Deputy Commissioner.
