Flood Help Weighs Heavily In West Virginia Governor's Race

Extravagant flood aid should expect a boost from voters for Jim Justice.

Charleston, West Virginia: After floods washed thousands of West Virginians out of their homes, about 700 victims found shelter in a resort fit for royalty.

Jim Justice, billionaire owner of The Greenbrier resort and Democratic gubernatorial nominee, opened it up to flood victims after the June 23 floods that killed 23 people.

Justice suspended his campaign for two weeks following the floods, but still should expect a boost from voters. There's a long history of natural disasters making or breaking political leaders, but they almost always involve people holding an office during the crisis.

GOP gubernatorial nominee Bill Cole also aided flood victims, but with less fanfare.
