Two alleged militants arrested in Mumbai

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has arrested a man named Farooq Naiku, who is allegedly a member of the militant group Hizbul Mujahideen. According to the police, Naiku was arrested from a guest house in central Mumbai on January 16. Another man, Mohammed Talukdar, was also arrested along with Naiku on his alleged association with the terror group based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

Naiku, a resident of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, came to Mumbai one-and-a-half years back and was staying in Navi Mumbai, posing as a dry fruit merchant, say the police. The Mumbai police also claims that he was part of a fake currency racket.

The Mumbai crime branch searched Naiku's his house and recovered some CDs, according to the police, who also said that Naiku had taken photographs of dams, bridges and other places and sent them via emails to handlers in Pakistan.

The 32-year-old has gone to Pakistan by crossing the Wagah border illegally at least thrice since 2001, officials from Mumbai Police said.

Both Naiku and Talukdar have been sent to police custody till January 23.
