Yesterday once more: Chiranjeevi on horseback

Visakhapatnam: For half-an-hour, Chiranjeevi, the superstar, took over from Chiranjeevi, the politician, in Payakaraopota, a small town in Visakhapatnam district this weekend.

Chiru, as loving fans call him, is on a bus yatra in coastal Andhra Pradesh to demand that the Polavaram irrigation project on the Godavari river be started immediately. He took time off on Saturday to stop over at his party secretary's house in Payakaraopota.

The Praja Rajyam Party chief spotted his host's horse in its stable and decided to ride through a main street in the town. Delighted people surrounded him and ran after the horse in excitement.

Chiranjeevi's campaign aims at mounting pressure on the Centre for granting national project status to the proposed irrigation project. The yatra began on Wednesday at Antarvedi in East Godavari district and will end at Polavaram in West Godavari district on May 16.

The project aims at providing irrigation facility to about 2,91,000 hectares of land in Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari and Krishna districts.

Chiranjeevi's yatra is traveling through East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts.
