Patna Tops Wi-Fi Use At Railway Stations. Mostly For Porn, Says Official

Patna: Free WiFi, introduced last month at the Patna train station, has no shortage of takers. Of the 23 railway stations that provide free WiFi, Patna tops the list for the maximum number of searches. The curiosity is largely in porn.

To date free Wi-Fi facility has been launched at 23 railway stations in the country. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said the government plans to introduce the service at all major railway stations in the country in the next three years.

"More than any other railway station in the country, where free Wi-Fi service was launched, the Patna railway station is on the top in the country for using internet search, particularly search for porn sites," an unnamed official of RailTel, a state-run company in charge of introducing broadband services, was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.

After Patna, Jaipur railway station is second to use internet search, followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi.

Patna, which sees 200 trains passing through it everyday, is the first station in Bihar to get free WiFi. Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has said 400 stations will offer the facility for passengers in the next three years in collaboration with Google. Mumbai was the first station to get free WiFi.

Two years ago, when the Bihar government introduced free WiFi in the heart of Patna, data showed it was used mostly to download movies.
