Rain brings respite to Delhiites; temperature dips

New Delhi:

Heavy rains lashed several parts of the national capital on Monday evening inundating low-key areas and leading to traffic snarls in many parts of the city.

The downpour resulted in water-logging and traffic snarls in some areas. Traffic jams were reported from major intersections such as India Gate, ITO, R K Puram and other areas in west Delhi and east Delhi.

The central control room of MCD received complaints of water-logging from areas like Model Town, Azadpur, Munirka and Dwarka.

Reports of falling of trees were also received from some areas while a wall collapsed in Jahangirpuri in west Delhi, the civic body said.

The rain has brought down temperature to comfortable level as the mercury plummeted to 36.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 30.1 degrees.

Met department said till 5.30 pm, a total of 39.6 mm of rainfall was recorded.

The city had experienced monsoon showers on June 30 but after that the rains almost eluded the national capital.
