Maoists stoking Telangana fire?

Hyderabad: The Union Home Ministry report that there is Maoist infiltration in the Osmania University campus has sent the campus authorities and the students into a tizzy. They want the police to come out with evidence to prove the charge even as the authorities have ordered non-boarders to leave the hostels.

The police visited the residence of Osmania University vice-chancellor on Sunday to discuss the Home Ministry report.

"I do not have any definite information about Maoist presence on the campus. We are going to convince our students also that we should not allow anybody from outside to stay in the campus," said Osmania University vice-chancellor Tirupati Rao.

The presence of outsiders and also Maoist sympathisers on the campus had led to suspicion that the students were getting support and direction from outside. But top police sources admit there is no direct evidence as yet of Maoist presence or involvement.

"If there is any evidence, let them please come out with it and let them arrest and take them away. We are not associated with any such extremist party," said Raj Kumar, a university student.

For the students it is a period of tremendous turmoil and also a dilemma on how to get their voice heard in the political space and also ensure they don't get dismissed merely as a law and order issue. (Read: 300 Telangana students detained for taking out rally)
