Farmers end agitation in Bhopal

Bhopal: The farmers' agitation, which had paralysed life in the city for the last two days, ended on Tuesday after all major demands of the protestors were accepted by the Madhya Pradesh government, which also said it will frame a new law for land acquisition on the lines of Haryana.

State President of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh Shiv Kumar Sharma and Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Narottam Mishra announced withdrawal of the agitation at the Priyadarshini Park.

Sharma told the agitating farmers, who had laid a siege in the state capital for the last two days, that all their major demands were accepted by the government and asked them to end the stir.

Mishra announced on the occasion that no false cases of power thefts will be registered against the agriculturists.

He said the state's BJP Government will frame a new law on the lines of Haryana for land acquisition.

The Minister also informed that from now onwards, agriculture field, instead of a village, will be treated as a unit for deciding compensation of the damaged crops due to natural calamities.

As part of the agitation, the farmers had parked over 4,000 tractor-trolleys on the main roads connecting old Bhopal with the new one near the Chief Minister's residence, causing hardship to the people.

The local administration was caught unawares as the farmers started parking their tractor-trolleys from the midnight onwards on December 19, jamming all major roads of the state capital.
