Asaram's Son Like 'Lord Krishna For Stupid Women' Says Gujarat Government, Opposing His Bail

New Delhi: Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai can't be let out of prison on bail for his mother's surgery until doctors fix a date, the Supreme Court said today.

"Your client is curing so many people, he can cure his mother also," the court told Sai's lawyer.

The Gujarat government had argued against Sai's bail, saying that "stupid women treat him like Lord Krishna" and this could lead to a problem in getting him back into jail.

After hearing the case, the court said bail granted to Sai by the High Court would come into force only when there was a certified date of surgery.

Asaram Bapu and Narayan Sai are both in jail over allegations of rape.

Asaram Bapu has been in jail since August 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a schoolgirl. Later he, along with his son, were booked for the alleged rape of two sisters in Gujarat's Surat.

The Gujarat high court recently granted Narayan Sai three weeks' bail from May 4 for his mother's surgery. The state government, however, moved the Supreme Court arguing that it would be difficult to get Sai back into jail because his followers would create a "law and order problem" like they did before his arrest in 2013.

"Sai is a popular person and stupid women treat him like Lord Krishna and used to dance with him like Gopikas (girl devotees of Krishna)," the government said.

The Supreme Court then remarked, "Is it happening in Gujarat? We can understand if it's happening in some tribal areas, but a forward looking development state like Gujarat?"

Despite the dig, however, the court accepted the argument.
