New Hyderabad Mayor Known For Lavish Tributes to Chief Minister KCR

Bonthu Ram Mohan will be Hyderabad's new Mayor.

Hyderabad: The new mayor of Hyderabad is, unsurprisingly, a man known for expressing his loyalty to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao or KCR, as he is known.

Bonthu Rammohan, 42 leads the youth wing of  KCR's party, the Telangana Rashritya Samiti or TRS, which mined political gold in last week's election for the municipal corporation of Greater Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana.

Mr Mohan, trained as an advocate, has not been bashful about displaying his awe of the Chief Minister. In the last two years, on every occasion possible, he left Hyderabad plastered in posters praising KCR. For instance, on KCR's 60th birthday in 2014, he brought in a 60-kg cake that was cut by KCR's daughter 'Kavitakka' as he was in Delhi.

The Chief Minister's party won 99 out of 150 divisions in GHMC. Mr Mohan was among the winning candidates from Cherlapally area of Hyderabad.

The scale of the victory is especially showy because KCR's party did not contest the last corporation election in 2009.  In 2014, when Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh, KCR, credited with fronting  the successful movement for a new state, was elected Chief Minister. However, his party had performed poorly in Hyderabad. So it's new win flashes a surging popularity in the capital.

For the Hyderabad corporation, Chandrababu Naidu's party, which governs Andhra Pradesh, teamed with the BJP. The alliance won just five seats.

Runner up was Asaduddin Owaisi's party, the MIM.
