Amid Reports of AAP Win, Broom Prices Shoot up in Delhi

New Delhi:

With exit polls projecting a decisive victory for Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi elections, the prices of brooms have escalated.

The broom is the symbol of AAP which has pledged to sweep away corruption.  In anticipation of celebrations, party workers have bene investing heavily in brooms this week.

So prices have nearly doubled to Rs 100.

"Last night, there were some brooms in my shop but now can you spot any? The last piece I sold for Rs 120," said a shopkeeper in central Delhi's Gole Market.

Another shopkeeper Antharam said, "I have sold a number of brooms in the last two days and a handful are left. When I asked the distributor in the morning to supply some, he said, not a single broom will be available before a week."

A retailer in  North Delhi's Burari,  where the prices have gone up by Rs 20-30, said, "What will I do, the distributor could not supply me what I need, I had to increase the price. I don't want to go into politics but yes I am selling brooms for Rs 30 more."
