Two teenaged national-level players commit suicide
Ahmednagar: Two girls, both national-level players, committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train near Ahmednagar in western Maharashtra, police said on Thursday.

Vrushali Thube and Akanksha Sonawane, both 17-year-old and studying in the 12th standard of a local junior college, together ended their lives on Wednesday, police said.

The reason behind the suicide was not yet known, they said.

Thube and Sonawane, national-level players in kabaddi and fencing respectively, threw themselves before the Jhelum Express, police said.

The girls left home in college uniform but did not go to the institute to appear in the ongoing examination. The duo changed their clothes midway and headed towards a railway crossing, they said.

According to police, the girls had been neglecting their studies and they were warned by their teachers about this.

They were also not attending private classes since the last 4-5 days, a friend of one of the deceased said.

Thube's father is a private contractor, while that of Sonawane is in hotel business, police added.
