Number plates of Raj Thackeray's vehicles stolen
Mumbai: Number plates of two vehicles belonging to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray were stolen from outside his residence in Mumbai, police said on Wednesday.

A theft case was registered at Shivaji Park police station on a complaint by Thackeray's driver Ashok Tandal on Tuesday.

According to police, the number plates were of a Qualis and a Camry car parked on a lane outside Thackeray's residence in Dadar, central Mumbai. The MNS leader has been provided 'Y' category security.

When the police went to the spot, they learnt that number plates of eight more vehicles belonging to residents in the posh Shivaji Park area had been stolen.

A police officer said stolen number plates are generally used by thieves in other crimes. "Thieves put these number plates to their vehicles before executing a crime to evade arrest," the officer said.
