Rioters vandalised more than 500 public buses in Chile following the country's stunning World Cup win over Spain, commandeering some of them and even attacking drivers, authorities said on Thursday.
Wednesday's 2-0 victory sent Spain crashing out of the competition, ending their long reign as kings of international football.
A total of 527 buses were damaged during celebrations in the capital Santiago, rioters assaulted 41 drivers and hijacked six vehicles, city transport chief Guillermo Munoz told broadcaster Chilevision.
The rioting made it difficult for many people to get home following the game and the festivities that ensued.
The trouble affected eight percent of the total fleet of buses operated by Transantiago, a public transportation provider that has been criticized for poor service and high fares.
Authorities said they would take legal action against those responsible.
