Mob Sets 25 Houses on Fire in Bihar Village, 3 Dead

The police are looking for the people who had allegedly been identified during the attack on the village.

Muzaffarpur district, Bihar: Three persons, all belonging to the minority community, were burnt alive this afternoon in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district after a mob attacked a village, torching as many as 25 huts. Two people, who sustained serious burns, are at the local government hospital.

Initial investigations at Bahilwara village, around 55 km from state capital Patna, indicate the incident was one of revenge killing, police said.

A few days ago, a youth belonging to the backward castes living in an adjoining village had eloped with a girl from the minority community, an officer said. This morning, his body was recovered from a nearby area, following which a mob attacked the girl's village and set fire to houses.
Bihar Police spokesperson and Additional Director General Gupteshwar Pandey said the situation was tense, but under control. No curfew has been imposed in the area. All senior officials of the district are camping at the village.

The police are looking for the people who had allegedly been identified during the attack on the village. A case will be also be registered, he said.

All efforts will be made to ensure the situation does not deteriorate further, the officials said.
