Anupam Kher's house stoned in Mumbai

Mumbai: The house of actor Anupam Kher was attacked by alleged activists of Republican Party of India (RPI) on Saturday who protested his remarks on the Constitution, the police said.

The actor was not present when stones were pelted at his house in suburban Juhu around 8 pm on Saturday. A few window panes were broken.

The police said a team has been rushed there and 11 persons have been taken into custody.

The RPI activists were protesting Kher's remarks allegedly against the Constitution while talking to TV channels when he expressed support for Anna Hazare's hunger strike.

Speaking to NDTV, the actor said, "Before they came to my house, they came to my acting school around 4:30-5:00 in the evening and broke the board of my school through stones. But at about 8:30 in the evening, Sikandar called me that there are people who are shouting slogans against you and they have broken some things and windows. Then I got a little worried."

A privilege motion has been moved against him in the Maharashtra Assembly with regard to his remarks. But the actor denied he made any such statement.

"It's about a statement which I did not make. I'm a little sad that just based on somebody saying something, an Assembly which is elected by the people make a decision like this without a documentary proof," he told NDTV.
