UK journal published by NRIs short-listed for award

<I>Asian Lite</I>, a newspaper for the British-Asian community designed, edited and published by India-origin journalists has been short-listed for a coveted British media award.

The newspaper has been short-listed for the How-Do Media Awards, one of the largest industry accolades in Britain.

Others four newspapers short-listed in the 'Newspaper' category are The Guardian Media Group's <I>Manchester Evening News</I> and <I>Stockport Express</I>, <I>Johnston Press's Lancashire Evening Post</I> and <I>New York-based Crain's Manchester Business</I>.

The winner will be announced on April 30.

<I>Asian Lite</I> publisher Anasudhin Azeez, designers P Anchal and Satheesh MK, hail from Kerala while the newspapers editor is Gujarat-origin Buddhadev Pandya.

The Manchester-based <I>Asian Lite</I> was launched on June 7, 2007 with a circulation of 20,000. Within two years its circulation has doubled. It is also the first British-Asian
newspaper to offer multi-task facilities like IPTV, Digital edition on a single platform.

The newspaper refrains from accepting advertisements from escort services (both classified and display), sex chat lines or advertisements of psychics and faith healers.
