As global tensions soar following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, an unexpected word began trending online: "Noble." It wasn't in reference to diplomacy or virtue, it was a direct jab at President Donald Trump's infamous 2020 misspelling of the Nobel Peace Prize as "Noble."
On Sunday, Trump confirmed he had ordered precision strikes on Iran's key nuclear sites, Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, the most significant escalation between the US and Iran in years.
Shortly after news of the attack broke, "Noble" began trending across platforms like X, as users recycled and re-shared a tweet Trump posted in April 2020. In it, he had slammed journalists and asked when they would "be turning back their cherished 'Nobles'," mistakenly referring to the Nobel Prize.
"When will all of the 'reporters' who have received Noble Prizes for their work on Russia, Russia, Russia, only to have been proven totally wrong... be turning back their cherished 'Nobles' so that they can be given to the REAL REPORTERS & JOURNALISTS who got it right?" he wrote in a tweet in 2020 which he deleted after backlash.
The resurgence of the typo follows Pakistan's recent nomination of Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his diplomatic role in easing the May border tensions between India and Pakistan. Trump, who has long voiced frustration over not receiving the Nobel Prize, often cites his mediation efforts in the Middle East, the Balkans, and South Asia.
The irony wasn't lost on users who highlighted the sharp contrast between being nominated for a peace prize and launching military strikes shortly after.
A user wrote on X, "Donald trump is obsessed with winning the Nobel (or as he spells it, "Noble") Prize because he hates Black people and Barack Obama won it. The end."
