The Vancouver riot kiss

The Vancouver riot kiss
Vancouver: Some call it the "Vancouver riot kiss"  and others, "love among the ruins".  While Vancouver faced the fury of fans after its Stanley Cup dream dashed, a photo of a couple lying in the middle of a road appearing to kiss has taken the internet by storm.

The photograph has sparked online debates over the authenticity of the act. Many believe it was staged, while others have been asking if the woman was a willing participant.

The image was captured by a freelance journalist, Richard Lam, who was covering the chaos on the streets of the city after the Vancouver's Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruinson on Wednesday night.

Mr Lam told a Canadian newspaper that all he was doing when he clicked the now-famous photograph was to ensure that he is not beaten up when he spotted the couple lying in between the riot police and the angry crowd.

"The riot police made a charge so we were running. I looked back and there were two people lying on the street. At first I thought she was hurt," he told the Toronto Star newspaper.

A massive search for the couple has been undertaken by the Canadian media.

"We're looking for the kissing couple in this photo," CBC News tweeted at 10am Thursday "Know them?"

Some media reports suggest that the couple has now been located, although it hasn't made a public appearance yet.
