Spanish jet makes emergency landing in Amsterdam

Amsterdam: A Spanish passenger jet has safely made an emergency landing at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

Airport spokeswoman Nina Verweij says the plane, an Airbus A320 operated by Vueling airline, turned around shortly after departing for Bilbao. No injuries have been reported.

Verweij said she did not know the cause, or the number of passengers on board the plane, which can carry up to 220.

Local television station AT5 broadcast a telephone interview with a passenger still on the plane as it was taxiing toward a gateway at the airport. The passenger, identified as Theo Evers, said the pilot told passengers something was wrong with the plane's "hydraulic system" and to prepare for an emergency landing.
