Pakistan International Airlines Flight Comes Under Attack in Peshawar: Report

Peshawar: Passengers on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight had a narrow escape when unidentified armed men fired at the plane with sub machine guns today, media reports said, the latest such incident targeting the state carrier.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) came under attack early in the morning, however the plane was not damaged and it landed safely at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar.

According to witnesses, four attackers were seen escaping from the scene. They also said that the attackers were armed with hand grenades and sub machine guns (SMG), Geo News quoted police as saying.

The reports did not specify the number of passengers on board.

However, a PIA spokesperson denied any firing incident. According to the spokesperson the flight had arrived in Peshawar from Abu Dhabi in the UAE and has now departed for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson has also denied any such incident stating that there has been no report of any firing incident on any flight at Peshawar. This is the fourth such attack in Peshawar in the last few months.

On September 27, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft was fired upon during landing in Peshawar. However, there were no casualties.

On September 1, a Russian cargo plane came under fire in the Sheikh Muhammadi area of Badhaber, while in June this year, a PIA flight PK-756 was fired upon in a similar fashion in the same area. One woman was killed and two persons were injured in the attack.
