Pakistan appoints Aftab Sultan as new Intelligence Bureau chief

Islamabad: Senior police officer Aftab Sultan was on Thursday appointed the head of Pakistan's Intelligence Bureau by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been pleased to appoint Mr Aftab Sultan... as Director General of Intelligence Bureau," said a spokesman of the Prime Minister's House.

Mr Sultan had earlier served as chief of the Intelligence Bureau when Yousuf Raza Gilani was the Prime Minister.

He was recently appointed the head of Punjab Police by the caretaker government that conducted the May 11 general election. He has also served as Commandant of the National Police Academy in Islamabad.

Sultan is a law graduate from Punjab University, has a LLM degree from the University of Cambridge and an MSc degree in jurisprudence and legal studies from the University of
Edinburgh.
