Peshawar: A policeman was killed and at least eight others were injured in two bomb blasts in the restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of northwest Pakistan today.

According to police, security personnel had cordoned off an area near a bridge in Regi Model Town when a bomb went off.

One policeman was killed and another sustained injuries.

The bomb disposal unit defused two bombs containing an estimated five kilograms of explosives at the site, officials said.

In an earlier attack, a bomb explosion near a police van injured seven policemen in Kolachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district.

Officials said the chief of Kulachi police station was among the injured.

The attacks occurred as Pakistan celebrates Eid-e-Miladun Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, amidst tight security.

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks though such incidents are usually blamed on the banned Pakistani Taliban.
