That black speck on the Milwaukee Art Museum's white wings? That's a painter.
Wisconsin Industrial Painters are touching up 40 rust spots on the Burke Brise Soleil, known as the wings, and repainting 72 plates. They started September 29 and are expected to finish by the end of this week.
This is only the second time the wings have needed touching up since the museum opened in 2001.
The painters reached the top of the 11-story structure via ladders, tunnels and a steep staircase.
Owner Matt Radmacher was strapped to the building and used a two-way radio to have museum officials position the wings so he could walk on them.
Radmacher said when he got out there, he couldn't see anything but wings below him, which made it easier.
